Enjoying a small, family-oriented wedding

Kathryn and James have been living states apart and traveling nearly every weekend to see each other for a couple years. They are both quiet and reserved people, and they had a small family wedding in their families' hometown of Abbeville, Louisiana, near Lafayette.

Kathryn and James got ready for the wedding at the Caldwell House, a historical house in the downtown area of Abbeville, not far from the church. It's a small venue with a lot of room in the outdoor porches.

Kathryn got ready upstairs, and then did a little first look with her dad. Although the weather was REALLY cold that weekend (20 degrees), she was brave and went outside for some bridal portraits around the church.
One thing I remember most about my Granny is her hands.

Kathryn and James did their first look in between warming up in the church foyer. Once Kathryn and James saw each other and got to talk to each other, it was obvious that their nerves subsided. They started giggling and whispering, and their body language loosened up for pictures, despite the frigid wind.

St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Abbeville is probably one of the most beautiful churches I've ever seen.

The half mass was very sweet and intimate. Kathryn's parents and grandparents were all married in this church.

The reception was a laid back family gathering. The food is one of my favorite parts about getting to go to weddings. Don's Catering made this really good brisket beef that I thought was out of this world, and then I tried the groom's stacked king cake. Amazing.

There was a little dancing and visiting at the reception, but one of the sweetest moments was when Kathryn leaned on her dad to just visit with him for a minute.

Kathryn and James chose a small two piece band to entertain, and they did a fabulous job. This lady could sing like nothing else I've ever heard. She really needs to be known in areas further than Lafayette, LA. The man with her did percussion and sang with her, and it was a great combination. They interacted with the crowd, took requests, and kept everyone dancing.

Thank you, Aymond family, for letting me be a part of this wedding.
